Avis Fisher

Avis L. Fisher, age 78 of Menahga, Minnesota, died peacefully on Friday, June 20, 2008, at the St. Josephs Hospital in Park Rapids, Minnesota, with her loved ones at her side.
Avis was born on March 30, 1930, in Republican City, Nebraska, to Clarence and Myrtle (Triplett) Brugh. It was in this same area that she attended country school through the eighth grade. She went on to attend high school in Naponee, Nebraska, where she graduated with the Class of 1948. Avis attended Teachers College and upon her certification taught country school until the time of her marriage. On October 10, 1951, Avis was united in marriage to Kermit I. Fisher in Nebraska. This union was blessed with one son, Dale, and seven step-children. Avis dedicated her life to making a warm and loving home for her husband and children. She was a wonderful cook and baker who will long be remembered for her delicious homemade pot roasts, ham, white beans and corn bread, her famous pancakes and sausage and especially her chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. In her spare time, Avis enjoyed embroidery and cross-stitching. Each spring she looked forward to raising beautiful flowers into colorful splendor for all to see and enjoy. In addition to caring for her family she also worked for Ringer Manufacturing for several years and for RDO-Lamb Weston for a number of years. Avis had a profound love for children and teaching and had invested a great deal of time during her retirement as a foster grandparent at the Frank White Elementary School in Park Rapids where she returned to the class room to help children with their school work. Avis had a strong faith in the Lord and was a faithful member of the Hubbard Christian Missionary Alliance Church for many years and after its closing had become a member of the Evergreen Church in Park Rapids where she attended faithfully. She loved the out-of-doors and especially enjoyed watching the deer, birds and squirrels she fed regularly. Above all, Avis devoted her life to her son and daughter-in-law, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren who she loved with all her heart.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Dale (Debbie) Fisher of Menahga; her three surviving step-children: Gertrude Davis of Grand Island, Nebraska, Karl Fisher and Leo (Cheryl) Fisher both of Baggs, Wyoming; three grandchildren: Allan (Christine) Fisher of Loretto, Minnesota, Niki (Garrett) Fisher of Alexandria, Minnesota, and Sara (Robert) Brandenburg of Menahga; four great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; twin sisters: Nancy (Larry) Alexander of Orange Beach, Alabama, and Linda Waters of Lincoln, Nebraska; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Avis was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit in 1988; her parents; four step-children: Opal, Forrest, Marion, and Joe; and her sister, Winifred.
Funeral services were held June 24 at the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga with the Reverends Loren Bjornson, Bill Hodge and Clyde Allebach officiating. Special music was provided by April Hodge who sang, On The Wings Of A Snow White Dove. April lso played the organ. The pallbearers were be Avis grandson, Allan Fisher, grandsons-in-law, Robert Brandenburg and Garrett Stevens and friends: Dwight Johnson, Dale Morrow, and Jerry Brosdahl. The honorary pallbearers were her granddaughters: Niki Fisher, Sara Brandenburg, and Christine Fisher. Interment was at the Hubbard Cemetery in Hubbard Township. Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
